Hold on to the Vision

Two years ago I had an experience that taught me once again the power of holding a steady vision in mind of the thing you want to manifest in your life. Here's the story:

One morning, a small white dog wandered up our driveway. Being a dog nut and not recognizing this particular little canine, I went outside to investigate. When I called her over, she came as if she had been waiting for my invitation. I was smitten. She wore a collar but no tags, so I quickly jumped in the car, took her to the vet to see if she might be microchipped. Nope. When I got her back to the house, she proceeded to capture our other two dogs' affection as she had mine and before long it was as if she had always lived with us. By the way, the little dog was a snow white miniature American Eskimo or "Eskie".

Over the next few days I made unsuccessful attempts to reunite her with her owner. Of course by now, I had named her "Snowflake" and she had become a member of our family. But life had other plans in store. It was about a week later I was walking my three "four-legged" children one night when a car drove past us on a street near our home, did a sudden U-turn and pulled up alongside me. When the woman said the dog looked like her "Bella" and asked if I had found her, my heart sank. It turned out to be her dog, given to her by her husband who was serving in Iraq. I could do nothing but return her little dog and make her promise that if ever, for any reason, she needed to find the dog a home to please let me know.

Needless to say, I was heart broken. But while I was sad to have lost little Snowflake, I was also determined to find a "Snowflake clone" to fill the gaping hole she had left behind. I began researching Eskie rescues and checking the animal shelter for possibilities. I downloaded a picture that looked a whole lot like my Snowflake and propped it up on my desk, next to my computer. I even wrote out a "wanted" ad that described exactly what kind of dog I was searching for and sat that next to the picture.

Everyday, as I went about my usual activities I saw the picture of my Snowflake look-alike and the want ad. Everyday I read the ad, with a sense of "knowing" that the right dog was already on its way to me. Two weeks went by, three weeks, a vacation to Hawaii, and then one night, six weeks after I first found little Snowflake there was a knock at our front door. When we answered it, there was Snowflake's owner with the little dog in her arms. I was so dumbfounded I didn't know why she was there. But she knew. "I'm here to give you Bella," she announced. Stunned, I reached out and took my little friend from her arms. With tears in my eyes, I asked if she wanted me to pay her anything. "No, I just want to know she has a good home." With that, the woman left and Bella Snowflake has been ours since.

Now today's message is not simply intended to be a good dog story. It's a reminder that whatever you hold in mind consistently, with positive intention will eventually come to you. What is it you desire? Are you willing to hold that vision until it manifests? Are you willing to dismiss the critics and naysayers by reminding yourself that whatever you dream of, if you can conceive of, you will eventually achieve.

To this day I am convinced that keeping that picture within steady eye shot day after day was like applying a magnet to graphite shavings. Eventually what I held in mind came to me. Daily we see evidence of this truth in reverse. We worry, fear, fret, stew and ruminate over what we don't want to happen. And often, the very psychic energy we pour into those imagined worries and fears eventually brings them about.

I hope this week's message comes at that critical point for you. I hope this week's message is a reminder to keep the faith. I hope this week's message lifts you up to give you the helicopter view of what is possible in your life. I hope this week's message fills you with the memory of a time in your life when you did hold the vision and the thing you dreamed of eventually came to pass just as you imagined it. The choice is yours: dream and hold onto what you envision and desire, or allow the negaholics, naysayers and self-appointed critics (including the one that lives in you) to steal your dreams.

I encourage you to take the leap of faith, hold on to your vision and make your dreams come true. By the way, my next test of vision and faith is already in place: selling my mother's 35 year-old home in Las Vegas at what most would agree is a very challenging time in the market. Not to worry, the buyer is already on the way....I'm holding the vision, and I'll keep you posted.
