What is Coaching?
Coaching is to your life and business what a personal trainer is to your physical fitness. And just as you won't reach your fitness goals by talking about them, neither will you reach business or personal goals simply by talking. Coaching is ultimately about action. It's about collaborating with a gifted success partner then taking actions consistent with your vision.
The International Coach Federation (ICF), www.coachfederation.org, the official body representing professional coaches defines coaching this way:
"Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives.
Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has."
A coach is not:
- a therapist
- a best friend
- a mentor
- a parent
- a guru
- a counselor
A coach is your partner in success. A coach is someone who sees your strengths and challenges you to grow them, sees your weaknesses and challenges you to work around them, and above all someone who helps you discover your own greatness and bring it forward in a creative, collaborative process designed to help you reach your highest dreams, goals and potential!
